Under 2 years

Referrals can only be made by a health professional at this age

Children under 2 years old can only be referred to the children's SLT service where there is an urgent need for specialist assessment, for example due to cleft lip/palate or a medical condition (for example, stroke or brain injury) that significantly affects their speech, language and communication.
Please see separate referral criteria if the concerns are around eating, drinking and swallowing or deafness.
At this age, parents/carers or childcare staff can support children’s understanding, spoken language, social communication or speech sounds by accessing the universal and targeted support in the drop downs below.
In addition to this they can also call the CYPT Advice Line to speak to the SLT Team. Please leave a message and the SLT Team will contact you.  Calls are responded to on weekdays. CYPT Advice Line: 01923 470 680, choose option 3, then option 1 and leave a message.
