Service details

We work in partnership with schools, families and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure that children with complex health needs can safely access education and participate fully in school life. We provide specialist nursing support, assessment, advice and care planning to help meet pupils' health needs within the school environment, reducing barriers to attendance and learning.

Our Special School Nurses work closely with education staff to deliver training, guidance and ongoing support, enabling schools to safely manage a range of health requirements during the school day. This collaborative approach ensures that pupils' health needs are met effectively, promoting their wellbeing, inclusion and ability to achieve their educational potential.

We support four special schools across South and West Hertfordshire, with a Special School Nurse based at each site during term-time school hours. Upwards of 500 children attend these schools and may access support from the Special School Nursing Service, helping them to attend school safely and benefit from their educational opportunities.
