Podiatry service for patients with diabetes — West Hertfordshire
The diabetes podiatry service in West Hertfordshire is part of the Herts Valleys Integrated Diabetes Service (HIDS). This service is provided jointly by Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, and Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
The podiatry team aims to promote positive foot health and provide a range of services for people with foot health problems. The service is targeted to those with the greatest podiatry needs.
The service is provided by a dedicated group of Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists who are trained to deal with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the lower limb. All staff involved in your care will keep you informed throughout your treatment and give aftercare advice to help reduce the likelihood of foot problems. All of the podiatrists (chiropodists) are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

What will happen at your appointment
During your first appointment, your podiatrist will ask about your overall health and any medications you are currently taking. This information is important for them to make appropriate recommendations regarding your foot treatment. They will also check the circulation and sensation in your feet.
Together with you, the podiatrist will create a treatment plan, which may involve further tests, a referral to a specialist podiatrist, or guidance for self-care if you can manage your condition independently.
