Children and young people's sickle cell service

We provide specialist, culturally sensitive care and support for children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassaemia across Hertfordshire.
We work in collaboration with families to promote health, wellbeing, independence, and quality of life through education, assessment, and ongoing support.
Supporting children and young people from birth to 19 years of age who are registered with a Hertfordshire GP, we deliver newborn screening results, develops individual care plans, supports treatment adherence, provides school healthcare planning and staff training, and helps young people transition to adult services.
Care is provided in homes, schools, community settings, and specialist clinics, ensuring families receive the support they need as close to home as possible.

Making a referral
Children and young people aged 0-18 years who are registered with a GP in Hertfordshire can be referred by any professional currently working with them. We do accept self-referrals from families.
If a referral does not meet the service referral criteria the referrer will be notified.
