St Peter’s Ward is a 20 bed Rehabilitation Unit which consists of three bays and four side rooms based within Hemel Hempstead Hospital with access to a full range of outpatient services. The ward is managed by Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, which has overall responsibility for the nursing and administrative staff. The unit is for patients that require 24 hour registered nursing care and the services of a doctor. It is located in the Verulam Wing on level 3.
Simpson Ward has 21 beds and is used to care for patients who no longer require the acute care provided at Watford General Hospital and are being assessed prior to deciding where their longer term care needs will best be provided. It is located in the Verulam Wing on level 1 (ground floor).

On admission, each patient is assessed by the multidisciplinary team and a plan of care is formalised involving the patient. The anticipated length of stay will differ from patient to patient depending on their individual needs.
Meals
A menu is available on a daily basis from which you may choose your meals for the next day. Ethnic, vegetarian and other special diets can also be arranged. We appreciate that sometimes patients may not feel like eating at meal times and there is a selection of snacks, i.e. biscuits, and milk that can be provided at any time (please ask the nurse).
Visiting Hours
We welcome and encourage the involvement of carers and relatives whilst the person they care for is in hospital. Involving family and friends in care helps to improve wellbeing, communication and the overall experience. We call this approach Partnership in Care. To enable this we have open visiting hours from 10am to 8pm so you can be as involved as you would like to be. Let the nurse in charge know if you would like to be involved and you will be provided with a carers lanyard.
Visiting hours are flexible - if you would like to visit outside of these hours, please let the ward manager know.
Travelling by Car
Parking is available. Visitors can obtain a temporary parking permit from the Nurse in Charge, which will reduce the amount you have to pay. At certain times during the day, when patient activity to outpatient clinics is high, it can be extremely difficult to park.
Travelling by Public Transport
Hemel Hempstead railway station is a short bus ride away from the town centre. The walk from the bus station is approximately 10 minutes up Hillfield Road (which is a very steep hill).
