Supporting Christmas wellbeing for young people

A collage of all 2023 Christmas card entries.

The festive period can be a busy but anxious time for children and young people and so our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Mental Health Support Team (SEND MHST) have come up with an innovative way to help alleviate the stress.

Lights and decorations going up, music playing and social gatherings can create a huge increase in sensory stimulation for all children and especially those with special educational needs or disabilities. Additionally, expectations to be involved in school plays, carol singing and changes to routine can create an increase in stress.

Our mental health and wellbeing ambassadors have worked with clinicians from our SEND MHST to create this wellbeing advent calendar to share with schools and young people.

An advent calendar showing different wellbeing activities leading up to Christmas.

Every day from this month, young people are invited to spend 5-10 minutes completing the wellbeing activity shown on the calendar. The activities are designed to be quick and easy and involve least amount of preparation and resources.
