Managing conditions

Many of us are living with one long term health condition. It's also becoming increasingly common for some people to have more than one long term condition.

We support many people with multiple long term conditions so that they can manage them and live independently in their own home.

Below are some of the conditions and illnesses our clinicians deal with, as well as conditions our children and young people's services advises parents on.

ADHD

About ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition which can cause a child to be inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive.

Symptoms of ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age and may become more noticeable when they start school. The symptoms of ADHD present differently at different ages. Boys are more commonly affected than girls.

How ADHD is diagnosed

For mild symptoms (limited impairment on daily activities) of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, advice from school SENCo may be very helpful. If there are concerns about moderate to severe impairment then seek medical referral via GP. The doctor will take  comprehensive history and seek professional reports especially from the school. There are many other reasons why a child or young person may present with inattentiveness, hyperactivity or impulsivity. There may be other conditions associated with ADHD.
