HCT gains national gold standard quality mark for newly registered nurses programme

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust has been awarded the National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark (IQM) for newly registered nurses.

Preceptorship provides a period of guidance and support for newly registered nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs), to meet the needs of both professional groups as they transition from student to professional status.

The Quality Mark is the national gold standard and was created in October 2022 when NHS England introduced the new national Preceptorship framework for Nursing, which NHS Trusts now use to benchmark themselves against.

Sarah Grosvenor-Brown, Preceptorship Lead was presented with the Trust's certificate by Geraldine Rodgers, Director of Nursing Leadership & Quality NHSE in the East of England region and Debbie Cubitt, Senior Clinical Lead (Nursing/Midwifery) at NHS England, East of England.

On receiving the award Sarah who is an occupational therapist by background, said: "I am so thrilled to see the Trust awarded with the national interim quality mark for our preceptorship programme. All of the hard work that has been put into the development and implementation of our programme has come to fruition in receiving this award and ensures our programme meets national standards and is of a high quality.

"It means that our preceptees are getting a really good, formal and structured programme that will support them in their first-year post qualification and their transition into HCT. It also demonstrates to our newly qualified staff how much we value and support them and the amazing work and interventions they do for our patients every day."

Geraldine said: "Sarah's presentation for HCT was exceptional and the team’s ambition and the camaraderie within the organisation to develop their preceptorship programme was outstanding. Well done to all involved.

Debbie added: "Sarah has been inspirational, dedicated and committed to achieve the National Preceptorship IQM. She has worked so hard to achieve this award and has always focussed on staff and patient experience at the heart of this. The time frame of a year in which this has been achieved is just incredible.

“Congratulations to Sarah and everyone involved in making this happen!”
