Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital Intermediate Care Unit Inpatient Unit

About the Service

QVM Rehabilitation Unit is situated at the end of School Lane in Old Welwyn. The site is shared with Danesbury House.

QVM has 25 rehabilitation beds. During the COVID-19 pandemic QVM is providing rehabilitation for patients with COVID-19. Nursing staff, Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists will help you recover from your illness and adapt to the effects of your condition. If further support is required on discharge then the team will put this in place for your prior to discharge. The anticipated length of stay will differ from patient to patient depending on their individual needs. On average patients can expect to be on the unit for 14 days.

Prior to admission your doctors will have determined that you are medically well enough to leave the acute hospital and ready to progress your rehabilitation. However, should your condition change, you may be transferred back to hospital.

A date for your discharge will be planned early in your stay as a goal for us all to aim for. Our multidisciplinary team regularly discusses and reviews your care in the context of your return home and you and your family will be kept involved and informed of progress and plans.
