The East of England NHS Leadership Recognition Awards 2016 hosted by Health Education England, received 16 nominations overall from Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust with five successful finalists shortlisted.

During an award ceremony at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, the Trust celebrated two winning categories.

Julie Hutchings, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Specialist Nurse, based at the Florence Nightingale Child Development Centre, Harlow, won the award for Excellence in Patient Experience.

She said: “I work very closely with vulnerable children and their families to help provide support and education around the condition of ADHD. I also work closely with schools to help teachers understand more about it.

“I love my job and I was completely shocked to win an award for it. I have never won anything in my life.”

Joanne Clark, Senior Occupational Therapist and Acute Stroke Therapy Team Lead, based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, won the award for Leading and Developing People.

She said: “I feel honoured to be recognised in this way but as much as I have been singled out I owe it to my team. Over the past 18 months we have all worked hard to improve our working practice.”

The awards aim to celebrate leaders at all levels and across all professions, who go above and beyond to improve people’s health and the public’s experience of the NHS.

The Trust’s other three finalists included:

Mary Heffernan, Clinical Quality Lead for Children and Young Peoples Nursing, in the category for Inspirational Leader
Susan King, Human Resources and Organisational Development Project Manager, in the category for NHS Living the Values
Jennifer Jay, Physiotherapist, in the category for Emerging Leader.

David Law, Chief Executive at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, said: “I want to congratulate our winners once again, and also recognise all 16 nominations that were submitted into this year’s awards.

“Our staff go above and beyond on a regular basis, providing healthcare in the community across the county. These awards are a great way to recognise this on a larger scale but myself and the rest of the Board value the work undertaken each day by our committed workforce.”
