We would like to hear the views of people using services, carers, and local third sector stakeholders, at a series of open focus groups that we will be holding throughout 2017. The next focus group is on:

Back in 2015 The Marlowes Centre was purchased by Dacorum Borough Council as part of the town centre’s regeneration programme. This meant that community and mental health services based at the Centre had to move to other health centres across the town.
Last year the two NHS Trusts agreed to move those services back to 39-41 The Marlowes into a shared renovated building and this month work begins to turn it into a state-of-the art health facility for local people.
Although it does not look very exciting at the moment, we are investing more than £6million to transform the building to provide the very best health care.
We have also been working with the local commissioner of NHS services, Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group, as well as GPs and other organisations, to ensure a host of services will be provided from our building.
Staff from both Trusts have already begun to talk about how they can work closer together in the new building to improve patient care. We will be talking to patients and service users when we have some firm ideas about how we can integrate the care we provide.
We hope our services will be up and running in the new building by winter 2017. It will be the first major centre in the west of the county to bring mental and physical healthcare together. Some people have asked why we are not moving the services to Hemel Hempstead Hospital. That option would cost us a lot more and take much longer. These changes support the Your Care, Your Future vision of providing more care closer to our communities and the county’s Sustainability and Transformation Plan, A Healthier Future.
The Ground floor: Community mental health services along with podiatry and special care dentistry services
The First floor: Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services and children’s community services
The Second floor: Community mental health services and therapy rooms along with speech and language therapy, retinal screening, cardiology and diabetes services
We have already started talking to the people who use our services about the building and the opportunities it brings to join up mental and physical health care. We are also speaking to charities and other public organisations to see if they will want to use the building.
At the moment we are calling the regenerated building the Hemel Hempstead Health and Wellbeing Centre. In the coming months we will be asking local people to tell us what name they prefer from a shortlist.
