HCT’s Director of Finance David Bacon has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Healthcare Financial Management Association in the Association’s 2020 awards. The HFMA is a UK-wide subscription-based professional body for finance staff working across healthcare, running a number of professional committees as well as an awards scheme and an academy offering a variety of courses and qualifications across finance and healthcare business.
The HFMA’s honorary fellowships are awarded to members who have made a sustained and substantial contribution to the association. David has been a member of the HFMA over 20 years. During this time he has held several roles, including chairing the National Accounting and Standards Committee, the annual pre-accounts planning conferences and the Finance Team of the Year Award judging panel. In this latter role, David led on revamping the award criteria to include recognition of a finance team’s overall contribution to an organisations delivery of services. He was also an assessor for the HFMA Academy, becoming Chief Assessor in 2018 and supported the HFMA in the restructure of the assessment process.
Reacting to his award, David said he was “surprised” to receive it and was pleased to feel that people have valued his contribution. “I always felt my contribution to the HFMA was part of my payback, helping others with their careers in the same way that I have benefitted from the training and opportunities given to me.”
David stepped down from his long-standing Chair roles at the end of 2019. He has recently re-joined the East of England branch as a committee member as well as joining the HFMA’s national community providers special interest group. Both are relevant to his role as HCT’s Director of Finance.
