David Law, Chief Executive at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust
The Boards of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust and Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust agreed this week to establish a strategic alliance partnership.
Together both trusts employ just under 6,000 people and have incomes of more than £350million. The trusts already work together on a number of projects to deliver more joined-up community care including Home First, the development of a ‘Hub’ in Hemel Hempstead and place-based care in Stort Valley. The partnership will enable the trusts to further develop the benefits of working more closely together, without a formal merger.
Tom Cahill, Chief Executive of HPFT, said he is looking forward to greater collaboration between the two trusts. He said: “The partnership will give community and mental health services in Hertfordshire a strong voice in the important work of designing care close to home whenever possible. We will be in a better position to manage both people’s mental and physical health and to meet the needs of our local communities.”
David Law, HCT’s Chief Executive, added: “This is a very exciting opportunity for both organisations which will help us to develop care and services that support people’s entire health, both physical and mental health, at a time when demand will increase substantially with restricted levels of investment.”
Both trusts are involved in the development of Hertfordshire and West Essex’s Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP). This plan will set out how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering NHS England’s Five Year Forward View vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency. As part of this plan, the trusts will work together to focus on improving services for older people, including those with dementia, diabetes and COPD, and further developing integrated approaches to the delivery of care to children and young people.
