Emergency help from HCT specialist dental team for cancer patient

This picture shows two of HCT’s special care dental team: Neha Patel, senior dental officer, and Lisa Davies, senior dental nurse. They are fully kitted out in FFP3 masks, prior to starting a dental procedure with IV sedation. The patient they looked after has cancer but had been experiencing repeated episodes of dental infection.

Dentistry drills are an aerosol-generating procedure, so the team tries to avoid using drills wherever possible. However in this instance the decision to treat with a drill was a good one - the patient is now out of pain and very grateful to the team.

The majority of the dental team have been redeployed to HCT’s Prevention of Admission team but it is good that we are still able to provide this type of emergency dentistry. Well done Neha and Lisa for all your hard work!
